16 Clean Energy Pilot Projects Approved
The New Jersey BPU has approved 16 projects totaling 52 MW in the first group selected for the State’s Dual-Use Solar Energy Pilot Program.
Dual-use solar, or “agrivoltaics,” lets farmers continue growing crops, raising livestock, or conducting other agricultural operations while producing solar energy on the same land.
The 16 projects – located in Atlantic, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Monmouth, Salem, and Warren counties – will show how agriculture and solar generation can work together.
Through the pilot, New Jersey will study how dual-use solar can:
- Keep farmland in active production
- Create new economic opportunities for farmers
- Add new in-state electricity generation to support energy affordability for New Jersey families
- Help meet the state’s increasing energy demand
The Dual-Use Solar Energy Pilot Program will support up to 200 MW of solar generation over three years. The results will provide real-world data to help evaluate the benefits of dual-use solar and inform the development of a permanent agrivoltaics program.
