NYPSC Files An Updated Energy Storage Roadmap

The updated NYPSC roadmap assesses needed market reforms and cost-effective procurement mechanisms to achieve the increased storage target, identifies research and development needs to accelerate technology innovation, particularly for long-duration energy storage, and recommends approaches to storage deployments.

On March 14, 2024, the NYPSC issued a press release and order on the customer-centered electric distribution system program. The NYPSC directed the New York’s largest electric utilities to file proposals outlining alternative procurement mechanisms that they are seeking to deploy in the dynamic load management program. 

As background, NYPSC proceeding to implement Gov. Cuomo’s energy storage initiative. The Energy Storage Roadmap, released as part of Gov. Cuomo’s announcement, identifies approximately 60MW of advanced energy storage capacity already deployed in the state, with another 500MWs’ worth of projects in the pipeline.
