PULJ Files Notice Of Prehearing Conference In Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, Sandpiper Energy And Elkton Gas Company’s Application For General Increase In Natural Gas Rates And Approval Changes To Tariffs

On January 30, 2024, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation – Maryland Division (“Maryland Division”), Sandpiper Energy, Inc. (“Sandpiper”), and Elkton Gas Company (“Elkton”) (collectively, the “Companies”) filed a Joint Application (“Application”) with the Commission for increases to their base rates for gas distribution service and for certain other changes to their natural gas tariffs. In addition, the Companies requested consolidation of the three tariffs into one unified tariff in anticipation of the Companies combining their operations and assets into one local distribution company.

On January 31, 2024, the Commission issued Order No. 91007 in which it concluded pursuant to PUA § 4-204 that the proposed rates filed by the Companies on January 30, 2024 needed be suspended for a period of not more than 180 days from February 29, 2024 to provide the Commission with an opportunity to determine the justness and reasonableness of the proposals. The matter was docketed as Case No. 9722 and delegated to the Public Utility Law Judge Division. 

A pre-hearing conference is hereby scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. to establish a procedural schedule, consider petitions to intervene, and discuss any other preliminary matters. The hearing will be held virtually and streamed live for viewing only via the Public Utility Law Judge’s YouTube Channel.
