Revised Interconnection Standard Rules Adopted Effective May 1st
On March 30, 2026 an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) of the Public Utility Commission of Ohio (PUCO) issues an order directing that the amendments to the administrative rules review of Chapter 4901:1-22 regarding interconnection standards be adopted with an effective date of May 1, 2026.
The entry also directs the electric distribution utilities (EDUs) to serve a copy of this order upon all applicants with pending interconnection applications.
The entry notes that “as these process improvements were adopted to enhance transparency for interconnections, it is appropriate that all pending applications should be treated as if they were filed on the date that the amended rules become effective and subject to the prescribed timeframes therein. Nothing in this Entry will preclude applicants and electric distribution utilities (EDUs) from collaboratively processing applications more quickly than the timeframes prescribed in the rules, however. Further, to avoid unnecessary delays in processing, if applicants no longer wish to proceed with their application, then they should notify the respective EDU within 30 days of this Entry. The EDUs should provide service of this Entry upon all applicants with pending applications for this purpose.”
As background, the Commission opened this docket at the request of the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Workgroup to review the rules contained in Ohio Adm.Code Chapter 4901:1-22, and determine whether revisions are necessary to the Commission’s interconnection standards.
