On August 4, 2026 the New Jersey BPU  announced two virtual public stakeholder meetings related to the Board’s effort to examine how the State’s regulatory framework can best deliver affordable, reliable, and resilient electric utility service.

The meeting on Wednesday, August 19 will provide an overview of the Utility Business Model Phase 1 Study NJBPU released last month. The study was commissioned following Governor Sherrill’s Executive Order No. 1, directing the Board to study ways to modernize regulations to better align utility incentives with customer outcomes. At the August 19 meeting, stakeholders will be able to ask clarifying questions on the study and provide feedback on it. Participants are required to register by completing this form.

Phase 2 of the Board’s Utility Business Model investigation will cover quantitative analysis of potential reform options and synthesis of results of baseline and alternatives analysis to reduce and stabilize electric bills. To support this, NJBPU intends to establish two stakeholder working groups:

1. Goals and Metrics Working Group, focusing on the Utility Business Model and regulatory reform goals, customer outcomes and associated metrics, and
2. Technical Working Group,focusing on technical considerations of Utility Business Model reform options.

NJBPU anticipates each group will meet at least twice in the fall and winter of 2026.

NJBPU will hold a virtual stakeholder meeting on Thursday, September 10, covering Phase 2 of the Board’s Utility Business Model investigation, and the scope, timing, and next steps of the working groups identified above. This meeting will also provide an opportunity for public comment on these topics. Participants are required to register by completing this form.
