DER Workshop Materials Now Available

On July 30, 2026 the Maine PUC issued procedural order providing the August 4, 2026 workshop agenda in the Commission’s inquiry into flexible DER interconnections.

The August 4th workshop presentation slides can be viewed here.

Workshop on flexible interconnection opportunities and challenges were also scheduled for August 4th.

The final report due to Joint Standing Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee by 2/15/2027.

As a reminder this inquiry is in response to legislation directing the PUC to explore and evaluate adoption of flexible interconnection options to “use distributed energy resources [DERs], increase grid capacity, decrease grid instability and reduce costs in achieving state goals related to clean energy.”

Specifically, the PUC is directed to:

  • review potential practices for providing flexible interconnection options;
  • engage with stakeholders;
  • identify any barriers to adopting flexible interconnection options;
  • identify ways in which customers seeking connection might benefit from flexible interconnection processes; and
  • determine whether the costs of flexible interconnection may affect non-interconnecting customers and how that may be mitigated.
