Notice Type: SMT-M-A051425-07 REMINDER FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET TRANSITIONED – Smart Meter Texas FTP and API Upgrade – REPs and CSPs Action Required to Remain Utilizing These Services for Access and Download of Data– New Services Currently Running in Parallel in Production

Transition Period: Saturday August 23, 2025, 12:21 A.M. CST until Saturday September 13th 12:01 A.M. CST REPs & CSPs can transition to SFTP and API with JWT
Decommission Date: Saturday September 13th 12:02 A.M. CST FTPS and API without JWT tokens will be decommissioned and no longer available for use.
Short Description: SMT has upgraded its security protocols for FTP and API. This upgrade requires REPs & CSPs to upgrade their FTP and API integration points to continue accessing, downloading and requesting ad hoc data from SMT.
Intended Audience: All Market Participants
Long Description: REPs and CSPs are required to upgrade their FTP and API integration points to continue downloading and requesting ad hoc data.
SMT has upgraded the following security protocols for the data delivery integration points at SMT:
- Move from File Transfer Protocol Secure (“FTPS”) to SSH File Transfer Protocol (“SFTP”) for Retail Electric Provider (REP) and Competitive Service Provider (CSP) LSE file downloads, enrollment reporting downloads, and subscription reporting downloads.
- Addition of JSON Web Tokens (“JWT”) to the APIs for ad hoc reporting data retrieval.
The remaining timeline of activities is the following:
Saturday August 23, 2025, 12:21 A.M. CST until Saturday September 13th 12:01 A.M. CST FTPS and SFTP protocols are available and running in parallel as well as API without JWT tokens and API with JWT tokens are running in parallel. At this time REPs & CSPs are transitioning to the upgraded SFTP and API with JWT tokens integration for data access and download. SMT has dedicated support personnel for REPs & CSPs transition assistance during this time period
Saturday September 13th 12:02 A.M. CST FTPS and API without JWT tokens will be decommissioned and no longer available for use. SFTP and API with JWT tokens are now the official interfaces to access and download data from SMT.
Additional Information:
This upgrade accomplishes the following:
- Enhance security
- Modernize the SMT solution technology for longer term technical currency
- Simplify the FTP integration for REPs & CSPs by no longer requiring SSL Certificates and therefore, eliminating SSL Certificate renewals.
The scope of this upgrade impacts FTP and API functionality only. This upgrade does not affect any SMT Website portal access for any user types including Residential, Business, REPs, CSPs or Regulatory.
