SmartEnergy Files Third Report Of Independent Auditor

[ *** ] Abrams, Foster, Nole & Williams, P.A. (“AFNW”) are the Certified Public Accountants retained by SmartEnergy Holdings, LLC d/b/a SmartEnergy, as the Maryland based independent auditors in relations to the above referenced case. This is our third status report as independent auditors. We were retained to confirm the remittance of customer refunds, management of SmartEnergy’s refund accounting, validate the disbursement of any remaining funds to customer energy assistance programs serving within the applicable utility service areas, review SmartEnergy’s biweekly refund reports, and report to the Commission every 30 days until all refunds are disbursed.
Over the past 30 days, AFNW has not met with the SmartEnergy team. We have however reviewed the last two biweekly refund reports filed by SmartEnergy with the Commission.
The SmartEnergy biweekly reports adequately details the progress to date. It is our understanding from previous meetings, SmartEnergy planned to begin this upcoming week mailing refund checks to two groups of customers, (1. active and 2. inactive customers with a new address in the NCOA database). Auditor testing of customer refunds within the two indicated groups are anticipated to begin mid-September. [ *** ]
