Data Center Tariffs Under Consideration In Michigan
The Michigan Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an order and press release in response to an application of electric utility Consumers for approval to amend its Rate GPD, for high-load customers such as data centers. Consumers is “proposing changes to address the unique circumstances created by data centers and to ensure that accommodating the growth attributed to data centers does not create unacceptable risks for Consumers Energy or its customers.”
The Commission set a contested case proceeding for the application, saying that it would be prudent to develop an evidentiary record given that “[t]he electric load of new data centers presents unique and significant cost implications.”
