PSC Issued Order Approving Utilities EmPower Program Plans

The Maryland PSC issued order approving the utilities’ revised EmPOWER program plans, subject to the terms and directions included in the order.

As previously reported, EmPOWER Maryland is a program of the state’s gas and electricity utilities which covers energy efficiency, conservation, and demand response programs pursuant to the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act of 2008.

Next steps include:

  • Work group is directed to provide the MD PSC with its results and recommendations as required by HB 864 by April 1, 2025.
  • The EAG is directed to file a status report on its efforts by April 15, 2025.
  • The MD PSC is required to report the results of the work group study and its recommendations to the General Assembly by July 1, 2025.  
  • The EAG must file its recommended greenhouse reduction goals for the 2027-2029 program cycle by October 15, 2025.
