Mayors of Monmouth County towns sent a letter to the BPU urging the Board to indefinitely defer any award of offshore wind contracts related to transmission lines and over concerns about the BPU’s petition to FERC to reduce the approved Return on Equity (ROE) on the initial phase of the Larabee Pre-built Infrastructure (PBI) project due to concerns with the cost impact on transmission rates.

Additionally, a new coalition of over 40 municipalities and organizations was formed to oppose the state’s large-scale offshore wind energy projects, citing concerns over rising costs to ratepayers and potential environmental impacts. The newly established Jersey Strong Coastal Coalition (JSCC) is calling on the BPU to reject new contracts for two major wind energy projects being developed by Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind LLC.
