PULJ Files Proposed Order In Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Application For Adjustments To Electric Retail Rates And Charges
Excerpts from the Maryland Proposed Order:
[ *** ] Based on my review of the record in this case, I find that the Application filed by SMECO on May 1, 2024, for a rate increase of $37.9 million, will not result in just and reasonable rates and it is therefore denied. Instead, I find based on a test year of the 12 months ending December 31, 2023, as adjusted above, that the Cooperative is authorized to file revised rates and charges for an increase in revenues of $22,794,449, which will result in just and reasonable rates to the Cooperative and its customer-members. As allocated, this Proposed Order will result in an increase to the average monthly residential bill, using approximately 1,000 kWh per month, of $7.15. The Company shall file revised tariffs for such increase in accordance with the rate design and other decisions in this Proposed Order. [ *** ]
ORDERED: (1) That the Application filed by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative on May 1, 2024, is hereby denied; and (2) That Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is hereby authorized pursuant to § 4-204 of the Public Utilities Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, to file tariffs that shall increase electric distribution service rates by no more than $22,794,449 for electric distribution service rendered on or after November 27, 2024, subject to acceptance by the Commission, and which shall otherwise be consistent with the findings in this Proposed Order; and (3) That any motions or requests not granted herein are denied; and (4) That this Proposed Order will become a final order of the Commission on November 27, 2024, unless on or before October 18, 2024300 a notice and memorandum on appeal is filed with the Commission by any party to this proceeding as provided in § 3-113(d)(2) of the Public Utilities Article, or the Commission modifies or reverses the Proposed Order or initiates further proceedings in this matter as provided in Section 3-114(c)(2) of the Public Utilities Article.
