Memo Recommends Utility Should Proceed with Green Button Connect Implementation Plan
On July 16, 2026, the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers issued a memorandum recommending that the Rhode Island PUC direct Rhode Island Energy to proceed with its Green Button Connect implementation plan.
The Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers cited Rhode Island Energy’s progress toward implementation, including certification, staff training, customer support resources, and system development, and concluded that continued Commission oversight would allow the program to evolve and better serve customers. Since it supports moving forward with the Green Button Connect plan, the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers opposed reducing the Advanced Metering Functionality investment cost cap by $664,000.
As part of its implementation of its advanced meter functionality (AMF) Rhode Island Energy will be introducing several plans related to new customer data platforms: Green Button Connect, Sense, a home area network, and grid-edge computing capabilities related to Landis+Gyr Revelo AMF meters.
