New Bill Requires Affirmative Consent On Fixed Term Contract Renewals

Category: Uncategorized

SB 1128 was introduced that would establish that if a supplier customer does not provide affirmative consent to a new contract by the expiration date of an existing fixed term contract, the customer will automatically return to utility default service. According to the sponsor, the purpose of this bill is to address issues related to the Standard Offer referral program, but based on the text of the bill, this would eliminate auto- renewals of fixed rate contracts to variable rate contracts for all customers. Additionally, there appears to be no distinction between residential and C&I customers in this proposed change.
