“New Customer Offer” Option Goes Live On PUC Shopping Website

The Pennsylvania PUC implemented the latest upgrades to our shopping websites, PAPowerSwitch and PAGasSwitch, intended to enhance the user experience and assist in guiding shoppers to products that they may be interested in.

The new features assist users in identifying those products intended for “new customers only” and allows them to filter out these products if they are not interested in them.

For this new filtering feature to work, suppliers from now on will have to identify these types of products when posting their products on the website.  A new “check box” is now available when you enter your product information on the website.  If the product you are posting is intended for “new customers”  – suppliers will be expected to check the box “New Customers Offer”.

Please note that, at this time, the PA PUC is not adopting a standard definition of “new customer.”  Who qualifies as a “new customer” is at the discretion of the supplier.  However, suppliers will be expected to use the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION free text box to explain what they mean by “new customers” when posting these types of products.

The Commission notes that it will be monitoring the effectiveness of this new filtering and if there is continuing user confusion or other concerns, we may revisit this topic, including adopting a standard definition, on a future CHARGE call.
