New Jersey Board Issues RFI on Remote Net Metering (“RNM”) Application
in a RFI under the Remote Net Metering Act in 2023 modified the existing RNM program and affects the eligibility requirements and the sizing methodology for RNM facilities and necessitates changes to the application and approval process.
As background, in July 2024, BPU opened Docket No. QO24070554 as the forum for implementation of S2848’s program revisions.
Previously, in 2023, Gov. Murphy signed into law S2848, amending the program. Revisions included: (1) allowing for solar facilities of up to 10 MW; (2) allowing for multiple public entities to serve as host customers for a single facility; (3) permitting projects to be located on sites without existing load; and (4) providing the same incentives for participating projects as for non-low-and-middle-income segment community solar projects.
