NJ BPU Approve 3rd and 4th CSI Solicitations

On March 9th in a press release the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) issued an order initiating the CSI fourth round solicitation.

In this order, among other things the BPU did the following:

(1) approved a solicitation target of 300MW solar generation and 160MWh of paired storage and solar allocated as follows: (i) Tranche 1A (Grid Supply = 20MW), 120MW; (ii) Tranche 1 (Grid Supply < 20MW), 75MW; (iii) Tranche 2 (Grid Supply on the Built Environment), 25MW; (iv) Tranche 3 (Grid Supply on Contaminated Sites & Landfills), 60MW; (v) Tranche 4 (Net Metered non-residential > 5MW), 20MW; and (vi) Tranche 5 (Energy Storage Paired with Solar), 160MWh;

(2) “created a new competitive tranche for basic grid supply projects that are greater than or equal to 20 MW in size,” Tranche 1A, which will have the same prequalification requirements as Tranche 1”;

(3) established confidential price caps;

(4) “waived bid fees for projects that participated in the previous solicitation”;

(5) maintained the availability of Tranche 2 to: (i) projects on land classified as “Industrial and Commercial Complexes”; (ii) projects on land classified as “Extractive Mining”; and (iii) to floating solar projects; and

(6) directed “that Tranche 4 projects may compete in Tranche 5 for an SREC-II adder.”

Previously on March 3rd in another press release the BPU announced that it issued an order making awards for the CSI third round solicitation,

In this order the BPU approved 24.1179MW across the following projects:

(1) Court at Deptford Solar, 4.1MW;

(2) Deptford Landfill Solar, 10MW; and

(3) North Jersey District Water Supply Commission 10MW, which will make it the nation’s largest floating solar facility.
