Parties Filed Comments On Co-Located Load Configuration Matter; SB1 Co-location Study & Technical Conference Scheduled
Note that a technical conference will be held September 9, 2024, to consider stakeholder comments.
Overview of some of the comments filed include:
Maryland Department of Commerce filed comments suggesting a further study on the potential cost impacts to ratepayers as well as economic impacts to the state.
ReliabilityFirst commented that any changes to power generation should be carefully evaluated before implementation.
IBEW Local 26 requested that the MDPSC considers the vast benefits in terms of employment and revenue that are available to Maryland if they adopt policies that allow colocation and incentivize data centers to invest in Maryland.
Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington commented that that the MDPSC must study both configurations, which also aligns with the operational functionality of the mandate in Senate Bill 1.
Parties file comments in response to the Maryland Public Service Commission filed a supplemental notice convening a public conference and request for comments.
These previously parties filed initial comments include:
Maryland Legislative Coalition Climate Justice Wing filed comments that address impacts from potential co–located load configuration specifically, co-locating a data center with Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant.
Calvert County Board of County Commissioners filed comments strongly urging the MDPSC to include a comparative assessment of co-location and front of the meter configurations.
