Procedural Schedule Set in Merger of Black Hills and NorthWestern Energy Group
On March 20th NorthWestern filed response to 350 Montana’s emergency motion and on March 25, 2026 350 Montana filed supplemental testimony.
Previously on March 17, 2026 350 Montana filed supplement to its emergency motion to stay.
On the same day, the Montana PSC issued an amended procedural order updating the schedule.
Rebuttal testimony is now due by April 9, /2026.
Settlements, if any, due by April 17th; non-settling party testimony now due by April 30, 2026.
The prehearing memoranda due by May 1st with objections due by May 6th with hearings scheduled to begin May 12th.
As background, Black Hills and NorthWestern Energy Group (NWEG) are requesting approval of a merger of equals, through which NWEG would become a direct subsidiary of Black Hills with NorthWestern Energy Corporation remaining a direct subsidiary of NWEG. According to a press release, the combined company will have a pro forma market capitalization of ~$7.8 billion, and the “natural gas utility will serve approximately 1.4 million customers and operate approximately 59,000 miles of natural gas lines” across eight states.
