PUC Approves Gas Utility’s Rate Case Joint Settlement Without Modification
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) issued an order approving UGI Utilities, Inc. – Gas Division (“UGI Gas” or the “Company”) rate case without modification.
In a press release the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission announce that the “Commission voted 5-0 to approve a Joint Petition for Approval of Settlement (joint settlement) without modification as detailed in the Recommended Decision of PUC Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge Mark A. Hoyer and Administrative Law Judge Charece Z. Collins.”
“UGI Gas provides natural gas distribution service to approximately 690,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in 46 counties across Pennsylvania.”
UGI Gas Rate Changes
“Under the settlement, UGI Gas may increase base rate revenues by $69.5 million (8.9%) – approximately $40.9 million less than the company’s initial request of $110.4 million (14.1%). Additionally, the settlement includes a $1.25 adjustment to the monthly residential customer charge, as opposed to the $4.95 increase proposed by the company.”
“Under the settlement the average bill for a residential customer using 72.9 hundred cubic feet (Ccf) of natural gas per month would increase from $103.57 to $110.51 per month (6.7%) as opposed to the 10.8% proposed increase in UGI Gas’ initial filing.”
In addition, under the approved settlement, UGI Gas also agreed to disclose on its website before redirecting customers to the HomeServe products, that that these products are optional and that UGI Gas does not endorse HomeServe’s products over those of HomeServe’s competitors.
In a related matter UGI Gas also agreed to update its hosted “ugi.com” website pages to remove the term “affordable” where HomeServe’s repair plans are referenced.
UGI was also agreed to move the Price to Compare (“PTC”) from the back of the bill to the front of the bill.
