SOPEC Seeks “Power Broker” License
Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council d/b/a Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) applied for an Ohio electricity “power broker” license to serve all customer classes in all service areas.
In its application SOPEC said that it will:
“operate only as an aggregator and power broker,” and that, “SOPEC will not take title to power.”
“SOPEC’s operations will include generation of power for retail sales, the scheduling of retail power for transmission and delivery, the provision of retail ancillary services, and other services used to arrange for the purchase and delivery of electricity to retail customers.”
“Beginning in January of 2023, SOPEC became AEP Energy’s exclusive selected governmental electric aggregator in Ohio for new communities seeking aggregation.”
