Staff Held Initial DER Workshop

Category: Illinois
Related Categories: Energy Storage, Legislation

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) is currently hosting a series of energy storage procurement workshops to better address rising energy demand and support Illinois’ energy transition as outlined in the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA).

As background, the Illinois Commerce Commission has launched a process to develop an energy storage procurement proposal as directed by new state legislation which is still pending on Gov. Pritzker’s desk.

Storage technologies are designed to store excess electricity, better integrate renewable energy sources onto the power grid, and improve overall grid stability for a more reliable, cost-effective power system.

The workshops will develop an initial process and model contract for the procurement of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage resources, and the initial procurement should include no more than 1,500 megawatts of storage resources for the state.

Staff’s first DER Workshop held on January 31, 2025; materials can be found at links below.
