Dockets: DE 25-032

In New Hampshire, the Commission approves Unitil’s default energy services for sixth month period beginning February 1st.

“This order authorizes Unitil Energy Systems, Inc. (Unitil or the Company) to recover the costs of power supply through default energy service (Default Service) rates for effect during the six-month period of February 1, 2026, to July 31, 2026.

The updated Default Service rate for Unitil’s Small Customer Group, which includes residential customers taking Default Service from Unitil, is 12.061 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), which will result in an increase in overall monthly bills for a typical residential customer using 650 kWh monthly and taking Default Service from Unitil of approximately 1.1 percent, or $1.85, compared to current rates. . . . This rate includes a charge of 0.278 cents per kWh for Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) compliance costs. The RPS costs represent approximately 2.3 percent of the power supply charges for residential customers.”

“The Commission also approves Unitil’s market-based ISO-New England procurement tranche of 50 percent of Small and Medium (which includes certain commercial and industrial (C&I) Default Service customers of Unitil) Customer Group load, and 100 percent of Large Customer Group load (which is comprised of Unitil’s Class G1, C&I customers) that take Default Service, as initially approved by the Commission in Order No. 28,128 (April 9, 2025), in Docket No. DE 24-065.”

“This order also implements changes to Unitil’s calculation of the proxy prices to be applied to its market-based procurement elements for Default Service supply, to commence for the Default Service period beginning on August 1, 2026, with futures prices alone to be used in the development of the proxy prices. Also, this order establishes a six-month, rather than 12- month, reconciliation cycle for the Company’s Default Service accounting, effective immediately. These changes were recommended by parties to this proceeding. It is expected by the Commission that these changes will enhance the operation of Unitil’s Default Service process, for the benefit of the Company’s Default Service customers.”
