Retail Energy Revealed released a report stating that “their new report, Caveat Emptor: America’s $48 Billion Competitive Retail Electricity Bust, should be a wake-up call to both consumers and policymakers. In 2024 alone, 11.4 million accounts paid $4B more for “choice.”
According to the website, Retail Energy Revealed was founded by Laurel Peltier, an energy advocate and writer based in Maryland.
As Chair of the Maryland Energy Advocates Coalition, Laurel pushed Maryland to reform the residential retail energy market and level the playing field. In 2024, Maryland’s state legislature passed SB1.
