PJM issued a hot weather alert for the entire region PJM serves for June 30 to July 3 ahead of an expected prolonged period of 90+ degree weather.

PJM the largest electric grid warns of record-high power demand and possible blackouts.

PJM projects electricity demand could reach over 166,000 megawatts, which if achieved would surpass levels reached in 2006, at 165,563 megawatts.

Previously on May 18, 2026, the Department of Energy (DOE) issued DOE Order No. 202-26-23 PJM emergency DOE Order No. 202-26-23, pursuant to section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, to PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. (PJM).

The order authorizes PJM to deploy backup generation resources at data centers and other major facilities. PJM is authorized to call upon its Transmission Owners and Electric Distribution Companies to implement this order as needed.
