Two Electric Utilities File Notice of Default Letters for ResCom Energy
Duke Energy filed a notice of default letter that the utility had “received a notice on February 11, 2026, from PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM) stating that ResCom Energy, LLC dba NextVolt Energy (NextVolt), a load-serving entity in PJM with load in the DEOK zone, had defaulted on its obligations on February 11, 2026. Therefore, PJM indicated that it was required to initiate the process of returning NextVolt’s load to the applicable provider of last resort.”
The letter goes on to state that “[a]s of this morning, 135 Duke Energy Ohio electric customers were being served by NextVolt. Duke Energy Ohio’s electric customers that were being served by NextVolt will continue to receive electric service, without interruption, under the Company’s standard service offer. Duke Energy Ohio has initiated the drop process today, such that electric customers will receive notification of the change. Those notices will start to be delivered in approximately 12 days. The Company will do its best to communicate with NextVolt concerning this process so that the Company’s affected customers can be expeditiously returned to the Company’s standard service offer. Duke Energy Ohio customer service representatives will also be informed so that they will have information when customers call for assistance.”
A similar default service letter was filed by AEP Ohio noting that the utility had received a default notice regarding ResCom.
“AEP Ohio notified the CRES of the default and termination of the CRES registration, agreement and any associated agreements with the defaulting CRES by written notice to the CRES yesterday. AEP Ohio will notify the 409 customers (401 residential, 6 commercial, 2 outdoor lights and 0 industrial) impacted that their supplier is in default; this notice is currently scheduled for issuance today.”
