NYPSC Issued Order Addressing The Customer Benefit Contribution Charges
The completion of adding the customer benefit contribution charge calculation to customer utility bills must be done by July 21, 2024.
The utilities must provide the customer contribution charge by September 1, 2024, for all Distributed Energy Resource projects that constitute a complete replacement of a prior project or are newly installed after January 1, 2022.
The utilities must file tariffs that are effective September 1, 2024.
A summary explanation of the customer benefit contribution charge must appear on customer’s bills by December 21, 2024.
On June 13, 2024, National Grid filed a tariff sheet, to become effective July 1, 2024 on a temporary basis, to extend the effective date until 011/24/2025 Of note, changes impact the P.S.C. 220 Electricity tariff.
As background, in its order authorizing the commencement of Community DG programs, the NYPSC directed Staff to initiate a matter to establish valuation methods for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) (that a matter be initiated to establish a methodology for valuing DER and designing rates for DER providers).
