On October 1, 2024 the exemption on sales tax for EVs ended and the purchases will now be taxed at a rate of 3.3125% through June 30, 2025. The state received a $250 million grant from the U.S. EPA to build charging stations along I-95 for electric freight trucks. The project will establish 24 freight truck charging sites in four states, equipping them with 450 charging ports. This infrastructure is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18.6 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent by 2050, officials said.
The federal government approved Atlantic Shores’ plan to construct and operate an energy facility which is a major step in moving the project forward. The developers now need a review by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and several state permits. The two-phase project will power 1 million homes. Local residents are continuing to oppose projects over concerns of underground cables.
