The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), through its Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, has issued a new order extending the effective date of a key provision within the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) consent revocation framework. The extension moves the effective date of the enterprise-wide revocation requirement to January 31, 2027.

This provision addresses how businesses must handle consumer requests to revoke consent for autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages. Once effective, a consumer’s revocation—submitted through any reasonable method—must be applied broadly to all future consent-based calls and texts from that caller, regardless of campaign, communication channel, or business unit.

The FCC’s extension reflects the operational complexity involved in implementing enterprise-wide revocation controls, particularly for organizations that operate across multiple systems, vendors, and lines of business. The additional time is intended to allow affected organizations to align internal processes, technology platforms, and third-party partners to consistently recognize and enforce revocation requests.

Importantly, the extension does not eliminate or diminish the underlying obligation to respect consumer revocation requests. Businesses are still expected to receive, process, and document revocations appropriately, and regulatory and litigation scrutiny around consent practices continues to increase.

Organizations that use this extended timeline to evaluate and strengthen revocation handling procedures, vendor coordination, and recordkeeping practices will be better positioned to meet regulatory expectations ahead of the January 31, 2027, deadline.
