Governor Moore Announces New Commission Chair

Governor Moore’s office issued a press release announcing the new Chair of the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC).

[ *** ] Governor Wes Moore today announced the appointment of Kumar P. Barve as chair of the Public Service Commission, succeeding Fred Hoover, who resigned as chair but will continue to serve as a commissioner. Barve’s appointment takes effect immediately.

“Fred Hoover exemplifies what it means to be a public servant and has been a tremendous partner in our efforts to build a cleaner, more reliable, more affordable energy system,” said Gov. Moore. “I’m grateful for the work Chair Hoover has done for our state, and I have full confidence in Commissioner Barve, who understands the importance of energy sustainability and grid reliability.”

Prior to his appointment as a Public Service Commissioner in 2023, Barve served 32 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, and held a number of leadership roles, including chair of the House Environment and Transportation Committee from 2015 to 2023 and majority leader from 2003-2015.
