Independent Power Producers Urge PSC to Reject Expanded Utility Electric Generation Ownership
On September 11, 2026 Independent Power Producers of New York, Inc. (IPPNY) filed a letter urging the New York PSC to reject expanded utility ownership of electric generation and preserve the state’s competitive generation model.
The organization argues that competition has lowered supply costs, shifted project-development risk away from ratepayers, and attracted substantial private investment .
IPPNY also recommends greater use of competitive solicitations for new transmission, particularly in Upstate New York, contending that competitive projects can be delivered faster and at lower cost while supporting reliability and growing demand from manufacturing, data centers, and electrification.
