Legislative Activity To Follow
On November 25th Governor Hochul signed S.8182B/A.7939B, which requires telemarketers to provide certain information within the first 30 seconds of a call and disclose the address of any company on whose behalf the telemarketer is providing telemarketing services on any website owned or operated by the telemarketer and in written communication to customers. This act takes effect immediately. Bill Text.
On November 12th Governor Hochul announced that funding is available to help low- and middle-income households and older adults lower their energy costs and keep their homes warm during cold winter months through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which can provide up to $996 to eligible households.
On December 18th the Assembly Standing Committee on Energy will hold a public hearing to examine NYSERDA’s spending and program effectiveness. Details are available here.
On November 22nd Governor Hochul vetoed A05909, which would have established a chief sustainability officer to coordinate efforts across state agencies and other state government entities to address climate change mitigation and climate sustainability efforts.
On November 22nd Governor Hochul also vetoed A06253A, which would have established the NYS grid modernization commission and require it to conduct a study of research, development and demonstrations of electric grid modernization and issue a report to the state energy planning board for consideration in the state energy plan.
On November 22nd Governor Hochul vetoed A08869, which would have established a comprehensive EV fast charging station implementation plan and required NYSERDA to further establish a “Fast Charge NY working group” to develop such plan.
