[ *** ] 1. MEA will play a key role under the Climate Solutions Now Act in achieving greenhouse gas emissions reductions through various means, including the promotion of electric vehicles
- Because of its statutory duties and purpose, MEA has a direct and substantial interest in the matters at issue in this proceeding. Alongside its broad statutory duties with respect to energy policy in Maryland, MEA also has a significant interest in combatting the impacts of greenhouse gases, increasing energy conservation, and developing alternative forms of energy. At issue here, electric vehicles and related infrastructure are dynamic, crucial players in alternative energy infrastructure and conservation and serve a significant role in decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. PE’s application raises issues that specifically affect the State’s interests, and no other party can adequately represent MEA’s interests. Accordingly, it is in the public interest to grant MEA permission to intervene. [ *** ]
