Dockets: PC60
Category: Uncategorized

The Maryland PSC has formally designated consideration of various retail energy market reforms as Public Conference 60 (PC60) and scheduled a legislative-style hearing to consider various proposals, with the hearing scheduled to be held on May 1, 2024.

Excerpts From Order:

On June 2, 2023, the Maryland Energy Advocates Coalition (“MEAC”) filed with the Commission a Petition for Rulemaking and Request for a Rulemaking Session. On August 2, 2023, the Commission issued a Notice of Petition and Request for Comments on the Petition and other potential energy retail market reforms that should enhance the benefits of retail choice to consumers in Maryland. On November 6, 2023, the Commission received comments from the Petitioner and other interested parties.

Accordingly, the Commission initiates Public Conference 60 (“PC60”) to consider comments from energy retail market reforms and hereby provides interested persons the opportunity to file Reply Comments by April 8, 2024.  {***}

As reported previously, the matter originated with a petition from consumer advocates to end the purchase of receivable program or “POR”.  Several parties filed initial comments addressing the POR and other billing related issues but also advocating for a host of other broad retail energy reforms.
