NY PSC Denies Late Filed Broker/Consultant Request for Extension to File Financial Documents

Category: New York

On May 1, 2026 the New York PSC issued a Notice Concerning Requests to Extend the Date for Filing Financial Accountability Demonstrations for energy broker and consultants.

From the Order:

“In its Order Adopting Energy Broker and Consultant Financial Assurance Requirements, issued January 28, 2026, in this proceeding (Order), the Commission directed energy brokers and energy consultants to demonstrate financial accountability by April 30, 2026. Numerous requests to extend the date for complying with this requirement have been received. Some were submitted by April 27, 2026, as required by Ordering Clause 11, however, several were not.

The financial accountability requirement exists for the protection of customers. Energy brokers and energy consultants were given ample notice of and time to comply with this requirement. In addition, Ordering Clause 11 of the Order states that any request for an extension must be filed at least three days prior to the deadline. In consideration of the foregoing, extension requests that were filed after April 27, 2026, seeking additional time to comply with Ordering Clause 8 of the Order, are denied.”
