Pepco Files Proposed Higher SOS Rates
On April 22, 2026, Potomac Electric Power Company (“Pepco”) filed proposed Rider “SOS” – Standard Offer Service (SOS) kilowatt-hour charge rates for Type II Customers effective June 1, 2026 through August 31, 2026 and Type I and Residential kilowatt-hour charge rates effective October 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027.
As part of the same compliance filing of Pepco is requesting the rates to be effective June 1, 2026 for the SOS Administrative Charges that are subject to adjustment three times per year to reflect the estimated incremental, uncollectible and cash working capital costs of providing Residential, Type I, Type II and Hourly Service. Effective June 2026, Pepco performed its true-up of actual incremental, uncollectible, and cash working capital costs.
The proposed SOS Administrative Charges are effective for the period June 1, 2026 through September 30, 2026, with the next adjustment scheduled to be effective with October 2026 bills. Pepco trues up the administrative charge every four months such that it is adjusted every October 1, February 1, and June 1.
The total SOS Administrative Charges for Residential, Type I and Type II, and Hourly Service will change effective with June 2026 bills from 5.00 mills per kWh, 4.93 mills per kWh, 1.57 mills per kWh and 1.28 mills per kWh to 4.04 mills per kWh, 3.62 mills per kWh, 2.29 mills per kWh and 2.46 mills per kWh, respectively.
These rates remain subject to Maryland PSC approval.
