Proposed Retail Energy Marketing Rules May Soon Go Into Effect?
The Maine PUC held a hearing on May 27, on its proposed rulemaking to amend Chapter 305, which governs competitive electricity providers (CEPs). Of note, only MEPUC Staff and the Office of Public Advocate attended the hearing. With no opposition or counterproposals from retail energy provider could speed the rule adoption process.
As reported previously, staff’s proposed amendments include: (1) the two required renewal notices to a customer must be dated and provided at least 14 calendar days apart; (2) requiring express customer consent for certain contract renewals; (3) specified disclosures of previous rates when offering a new variable product; and (4) prohibition on early termination fees for contracts entered into on or after June 30, 2023.
