PUC Approves 11%-14% Higher Utility Standard Offer Electricity Supply Rates

In a press release the Maine Public Utilities Commission PUC accepted bids for Standard Offer electricity supply that set new rates for residential and business customers of Central Maine Power Company (CMP) and Versant Power’s Maine Public District (MPD).
CMP
- Residential and small commercial customers of CMP will see rates increase to 12.72 cents per kWh in January for the supply portion of their bill. The monthly bill will increase by about $11 a month for the average residential customer using approximately 550 kWh of electricity per month.
- Residential and small commercial customers of Versant MPD will see rates increase to 14.87 cents per kWh in January for the supply portion of their bill. The monthly bill will increase by about $16 a month for the average residential customer using approximately 500 kWh of electricity per month.
- The impact for residential, small non-residential, and medium class customers as of January 1, 2026, for both utilities is reflected below.
CMP
- Residential/Small Business: 2025 rate: 10.61 cents per kWh; 2026 rate: 12.72 cents per kWh
- Med. Business: 2025 weighted average rate: 10.47 cents per kWh; 2026 weighted average rate: –12.36 cents per kWh
- The Standard Offer prices for large non-residential class for CMP will be indexed to wholesale market prices and will be set in advance of each month.
VERSANT-MPD
- Residential/Small Business: 2025 rate: 11.65 cents per kWh; 2026 rate: 14.87 cents per kWh
- Med. Business: 2025 weighted average rate: 15.02 cents per kWh; 2026 weighted average rate: 14.67 cents per kWh
- Large Business: 2025 weighted average rate: 17.76 cents per kWh; 2026 weighted average rate: 17.16 cents per kWh
