As background, under state law, the ICC must initiate a review of “best practices in calculating the value of distributed energy resource benefits; a review of the full value of the distributed energy resources and the manner in which each component of that value is or is not otherwise compensated; and assessments of how the value of distributed energy resources may evolve based on the present and future technological capabilities of distributed energy resources and based on present and future grid needs.”
This series of workshops (which is divided into two sub-series) was initiated to meet the statutory requirement.
Following the conclusion of Workshop Series 2, Staff will ask the ICC to initiate a rulemaking proceeding “to establish an annual process and formula for the compensation of distributed generation and energy storage systems, and an initial set of inputs for that formula.”
