ICC Seeks Comments on Hosting New Nuclear Power Generation Facilities

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) is seeking information from communities interested in hosting new nuclear plants. The Notice of Inquiry* (NOI), pursuant to Governor JB Pritzker’s Executive Order 2026-01, is intended to gather comments on community interest in hosting a new nuclear power generation facility to help identify sites with strong potential to support such facilities.

While the NOI directs specific questions at communities, the ICC encourages electric utilities, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, and other interested stakeholders to comment, particularly on information related to electric system characteristics or potential locations that may support development of new nuclear facilities.

Initial stakeholder comments must be filed by May 25, 2026. Submission of reply comments must be filed by June 22, 2026. Submissions and/or questions can be directed to NOI manager, Gulzar Ahmed, gulzar.ahmed@illinois.gov.

Questions and additional information about 26-NOI-02 can be found on the ICC website.
