On September 24, 2024, Governor Hochul announced that the Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission has issued final siting permits for the Rich Road Solar Energy Center and Prattsburgh Wind LLC projects. The solar farm and the wind farm, located in St. Lawrence County and Steuben County, respectively, will bring a combined 387 MW of clean, renewable energy to the State’s electric grid, powering more than 123,000 average-sized homes. 

On September 24, 2024,in Docket No. 21-E-0629 (Distributed Solar), the PSC issued an Order confirming that the Joint Utilities shall apply deferral treatment for Statewide Solar for All program costs.

On September 19, 2024, NYSERDA and the DEC held an equity and climate justice stakeholder roundtable on the use of New York Cap-and-Invest (NYCI) proceeds from the Climate Investment Account. This is a critical component in supporting the transition to a less carbon-intensive economy and will direct NYCI auction proceeds to projects that benefit New Yorkers, prioritizing frontline disadvantaged communities overburdened by pollution and environmental injustice. On September 3, 2024, NYSERDA introduced the Appliance Upgrade Program under the U.S. DOE’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates imitative which is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and is set to launch in late October 2024. Currently, NYSERDA is currently seeking eligible retailers to participate in offering these appliance rebates. 

NYERDA released a Draft Scope for the 2025 New York State Energy Plan which will focus on the state’s energy systems over the next 15 years, and initiates an energy planning process that will examine options for achieving the state’s emissions reduction targets while emphasizing affordability for consumers. The plan builds on the work done by the Climate Action Council and draw from the proposed Cap-and-Invest Program.
