  • On December 22, in Docket No. 20-G-0131 (Gas Planning Procedures), National Grid filed annual updates and revisions to its moratorium public communications plan. Central Hudson also held an informational session on its natural gas system and plans to file its initial long-term plan by January 16.
  • On December 19, in Docket No. 19-G-0309 and Docket No. 19-G-0310 (National Grid KeySpan Gas East Rate Cases), the PSC issued an Order modifying gas business enablement key performance indicators in response to National Grid’s petition requesting authorization to do so.
  • On December 20, in Docket No. 20-G-0381 (PSC Motion as to the Rates, Charges, Rules and Regulations of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation d/b/a National Grid for Gas Service), DPS notified National Grid of its regulatory liability related to its 2022 gas safety performance. On December 21, the PSC issued an Order approving National Grid’s tariff amendments on a permanent basis.
  • On December 14, in Docket No. 22-G-0464 (Filing of Annual Reconciliation of Gas Expenses and Gas Cost Recoveries), DPS issued its report regarding the reconciliation of purchased gas expense and gas cost recoveries. 
  • On December 12, in Docket No 23-G-0147 (Review of the Long-Term Gas System Plans of ConEd and Orange & Rockland), PA Consulting Group issued its final report on ConEd and Orange & Rockland’s Long-Term Plan. Initial comments will be accepted through January 31 with reply comments due by February 21.
  • On December 14, in Docket No. 22-G-0610, the PSC directed National Fuel Gas to modify its gas system long-term plan, including directing NFG to propose pilot projects testing different scenarios of heat-pump deployment, provide additional information in its annual updates to its long-term plan and separate reports, and address certain recommendations in its next long-term plan filing. NFG will provide annual updates to its long-term plan by May 31 of each year and submit the next iteration of its next long-term plan by December 15, 2026. The PSC’s Order is available here.
  • According to a FERC report on Winter Storm Elliott last December, the state almost ran out of natural gas which would have left many residents without heat. The gas industry says that the report shows the ongoing importance of natural gas for heating and power generation. Full article here.
  • A group of 50 legislators sent a letter to Governor Hochul demanding she stop the Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company from increasing the capacity of its 30-year-old fracked gas pipeline, which runs from Canada to New York City. Full article here.
  • 90 local elected officials sent a letter to Governor Hochul in support NY HEAT, which would cap energy bills for low-income customers at six  % of their income, end subsidies for new gas hookups, end gas utilities’ obligation to serve new customers and set up a pathway to electrify entire neighborhoods.
