Customer Complaint Filed Against Spark Energy Denied
On May 7, 2026, the Illinois Commerce Commission issued a final order finding that “[c]omplainant was a customer of Spark Energy, Complainant had knowledge that Spark Energy was her natural gas supplier when she called to make a monthly payment. Additionally, Complainant did not provide any evidence that Spark Energy billed Complainant incorrectly or that she was overcharged. The Commission finds that this Complaint is therefore denied.”
As background, on September 30, 2024, Wendi Ayoub (“Complainant”) filed a verified Complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission (“Commission”) against Spark Energy Gas, LLC (“Respondent” or “Spark Energy”) requesting a refund of alleged overcharges in Park Ridge, Illinois. The complainant argues that she did not enter into an agreement to receive gas service with Spark Energy and that her husband entered into this agreement without her knowledge and consent. Complainant maintains that her husband did not have her permission to enter into the contract with Spark Energy, therefore, she argues Spark Energy contracted with her husband illegally. Complainant argues that Spark Energy is more expensive than Nicor Gas and asserts that she is entitled to a refund of no less than $10,000 for the amount that she believes she was overcharged while a customer of Spark Energy.
